FIGHT CLUB

Everybody is different. They have different morals and different beliefs. Do them some things may be crossing the line, but to others it may be perfectly fine. What is non-conformity? Nonconformism is the refusal to conform to common standards, conventions, rules, customs, traditions, norms, or laws. In the movie "Fight Club" Edward Norton's character did not conform to the normal rules, and common standards. He was portrayed as a non- conformist.Edward Norton's character is a automobile company employee who suffers from insomnia. When he goes to the doctors he asks for a prescription for sleeping pills. The doctor refuses to give him drugs and tells him to go to a group for testicular cancer patients and understand real suffering. He then goes to this group and discovers that their suffering puts him to sleep at night. At this point he is definitely crossing the line. It is not normal for a person to go to support groups that he himself as no part of. It is also not normal to sleep knowing that people are suffering worse than him. He is not conforming to the ethical moral standards that most people uphold.Edward Norton's character then meets "Tyler Durden" who then introduces him to Fight Club. This is the next part of the movie where it was crossing the line. Fighting illegally is disobeying society's rules and it also is morally wrong. Their typical fighting is pretty much beating the crap out of each until near death. Edward Norton's character didn't want to conform to society's rules and expectations. He wanted to be his own person free of rules and responsibility. The next moment of crossing the line in the movie was "Project Mayhem." The fight club gang would go out and vandalize the city. This portrayed the anti-capitalist mind set of the movie. This crossed the line because it disregarded the laws of the United States. This was also another example of Edward Norton's character's unwillingness to conform to society and rules. The last example of non-conforming was Tyler Durden's realization that he had an alter ego. He thought that he wasn't Tyler Durden, but it turned out he was. He didn't want to realize that he was the master mind of fight club and project mayhem. He didn't want to take responsibility for his actions and he didn't want to conform to what society would make him out to be as "crazy." The movie Fight Club crossed the line in so many ways. Whether it be the establishing of Fight Club, or Project Mayhem, it portrayed non- conformity in Edward Norton's character. The fact that he didn't want to obey society's rules, or he took pleasure out of other people's pain demonstrates his non-conformity.
